Veterans for Safe Access and Compassionate Care

I know that Thursdays are not my normal day to post but this could not wait until Monday. I found this group called VSACC (Veterans for Safe Access and Compassionate Care) There Mission as stated on their website is:
“Veterans for Safe Access and Compassionate Care(VSACC) is a non-profit research, education and awareness organization that advances Veteran health and wellness issues.”

What they want to do is get Medical Marijuana legalized by rescheduling Marijuana. This would allow doctors to prescribe Marijuana to Veterans (and others) to be able to deal with the medical conditions that plague our Veteran population. These conditions that many Veteran suffer from have been linked to Veteran suicide.

VSAAC_LogoWhen just one Veteran suffers so badly that they take their life. This is tragic to hear! What made me cry was when I learned that on average 22 Veteran commit suicide per day over 8000+ per year are suffering so badly that  they feel there only option is suicide. (I was almost one of these Veterans at one point in my life.) I just did not realize how common this is.  Since 2001 to now 6,717 Veterans have died in  the War on Terror. However since 2001 approximately 104,390 veterans have died by their own hands since the war started. That is over 15 times as many dead service members caused by the war directly. This has gone way past a tragic statistic…This is a national catastrophe!

However there is an answer. There is a way to decrease Veteran deaths! VSACC is going to try and get Cannabis rescheduled. Because in states that have a medical marijuana program right now have shown a decrease by 5% of Veteran suicides. As a Nation we have a responsibility to our Veterans to provide them with medicines that could save their lives. As many of the Veterans have put their lives on the line for us.

Even President Lincoln said in his Second Inaugural Address on March 4, 1865:

“With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him [Veterans] who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan…”

Lincoln wanted us to take care of our Veterans and Cannabis for our Veterans shows how much we care. It shows that we don’t want to see 22 Veterans die every day. Lets support VSACC!
